Walk & Talk: Let's all go down the Strand

Society member Jonathan Causer will lead this walk on Monday 14th November. The Strand has a along rich vein of London’s history.

Strand (in official documents it never has a “The”) is only 3/4 mile long, from Trafalgar Square to Temple Bar.  For a thousand years it has been a major highway and is packed with history, including the Gunpowder plot, a buried church, two murders, a crazed elephant, a crazed sculptor, a megalomaniac Duke and much more.

The walk starts at Charing Cross mainline station under the clock inside at 10.30am. We will then head eastwards, with a coffee stop about half way, ending near the High Court in time for lunch.  No stiles, but two sets of stairs.

There is no charge for this event, but a donation of £5 for the Society on joining the walk will be appreciated.

Please reserve your place through Eventbrite. This walk was originally planned for 7th November, but due to the rail strike action we have changed the date to the 14th. The places are few as the Strand is a noisy and busy venue. If the event is over subscribed Jonathan has kindly offered to repeat it.
