What We Do
The Society monitors all transport issues affecting Blackheath and has successfully led a number of campaigns to improve our transport links and prevent threats materialising.
Since its inception the Society has aimed to preserve and enhance Blackheath. In the early days our work mainly took the form of resisting major threats, such as motorways, as described in our book Guardians Of The Heath.
Blackheath Village is one of the few real villages left in London. Thousands of visitors come here every year to enjoy the shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs, as well as attending major events such as the London Marathon and November fireworks.
Widely considered to be our greatest asset, the 275 acres of open country which constitute the Heath is highly valued by residents and by our many visitors. As well as informal activities such as walking, a variety of sports and kite flying, it provides opportunities for organised events including charity races, firework displays, funfairs and festivals.
Our Events team organises regular talks and walks around the area to which members and their friends are welcome to join.
