Architectural Visit: Kingston Town House, POSTPONED

VISIT POSTPONED

A tour with a Kingston University’s guide and potentially with an architect from (RIBA Gold-award-winning) Grafton Architects around the university’s new landmark building. Winner or 2021 RIBA’s Stirling Prize, with a striking open colonnade facing the street, it is a lesson in current design thinking on flexible education buildings.

The building contains the university's main library and archive, as well as a theatre, dance studios, teaching spaces and cafes.

It is fronted by a distinctive, 200-metre-long, multi-level colonnade made from reconstituted stone to recall the facade of the neighbouring Surrey County Council building.

Meet at the Penrhyn Road Entrance, KT1 2EE at 10.50 am, which is about a 10 minute walk from Kingston-on-Thames station.

Tickets £15. Space is limited on this tour, so please book a place through Eventbrite available from 8th January. (This delay in booking is to give Friends of the Halls time to take out membership with The Blackheath Society, as the Friends Architectural Group is now part of the Society).
