Zoom: The Archives of The Blackheath Society

Zoom meeting: Tuesday 18 January - The Archives of the Blackheath Society at 6pm.

Allan Griffin, the Society’s industrious archivist, will unlock the mysteries of the archives. No other amenity Society has an archive to match ours, as it contains over 41,000 images centred on this small but very special area of London and is freely available online at www.blackheatharchive.org or through www.blackheath.org.

Allan will talk about the foundation and origins of the archive, how it has developed over the years with the help of volunteers, and is now available as a free online resource.

He will show how to find your way round it and highlight some of the most interesting, and surprising, contents. Seen above are an archive photo of the circus arriving in Blackheath in the 1960s, a Village scene in about 1900 and Tranquil Vale around 1875.

No need to book Blackheath Society Members will be sent an invitation to join the meeting. If you are a non-member and would like an invitation, please contact the Society Office.
