Lighting the Beacon for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations

Celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with us on 2 June 8.30pm - 10pm

The Blackheath Society has organised a free concert and the lighting of a beacon on the Heath to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee.

During the afternoon The Blackheath Society will appoint a temporary town crier for the
day who will kick off the celebrations by proclaiming the beacon event around Blackheath Village.

Starting at 8.30pm, seven choirs, mainly from Blackheath Halls, will sing music from 70 years of the Queen’s reign. Each choir has chosen a song from one decade of the Queen’s reign in a varied programme including gospel, musical theatre and classical pieces.

At 9.30pm the Young Mayor of Lewisham will ceremonially light the beacon – one of a chain of over 1,500 beacons across the UK and the Commonwealth.

The event will take place near the Hub, the paved circle in the centre of the Heath. To locate it, head in a straight line from All Saints’ Church towards the Blackheath Gate of Greenwich Park.

Please come by public transport – there will be no additional parking.
