Zoom: The Courtaulds at Eltham Palace

We are fortunate to be surrounded by several cultural buildings that form part of our national heritage.

David Sleep, an extremely knowledgeable volunteer at Eltham Palace will lead this zoom on the fascinating background of Stephen and Virginia Courtauld, and how they came to secure the 99 year lease from the Crown to build their new home and how many of the architectural features were inspired from other places. He will describe their life and times and look at aspects of the lavish interiors and visitors to their home In the course of the Palace’s thousand years of history, their time at Eltham was short but David will explain that they have left a lasting legacy.

The house and gardens are enjoyed by thousands of visitors every year and it is one of our many local landmarks that appear on the small and large screen dramas.

To join us for this zoom, members will be sent an invitation to join the zoom. If you are not a member of the Society but would like to join, please contact the office by email: office@blackheath.org
